Auckland’s Downtown Infrastructure Programme
In 2018, Auckland Transport and Auckland Council began fast-tracking critical work in the downtown area to support a successful America’s Cup event and APEC leaders meeting. The Downtown Programme is creating a generous and welcoming destination along the water’s edge that is recognisably Tāmaki Makaurau. It will become a space that strengthens people’s connection with the Waitematā Harbour – a vibrant, transformed environment for all to enjoy. The construction works are a complex mix of streetscape upgrades and new transport infrastructure that are comprised of:
- Quay Street Streetscape Upgrade and Enhancement
- Quay Street Seawall Seismic Strengthening
- Redevelopment of the Downtown Ferry Basin
- Extension and Enhancement of Downtown Public Space
- Galway St Streetscape Upgrade and Enhancement
- Queens Wharf Mooring Dolphin (subject to consent approval)Nash Consulting’s Team were asked by Auckland Transport to support transitioning the Owners team to ready them for successful delivery of the construction phase. The work focused on team effectiveness including resource planning – ensuring the right person was in the right role, with clear authorities to act. Also worked with the leadership team to develop an effective operating rhythm, a clear governance plan, transition the team to a new office space and set up owner’s performance reporting. The team also provided commercial oversight to the Auckland Council leadership team in the finalisation of the main works contract: an NZS3910 contract, tailored for a collaborative working arrangement, based on Alliance principles. The works were delivered through a joint venture between Downers, HEB Construction and Soletanche Bachy International.
